Tourism Industry Council South Australia
Storytelling Workshops
In the first half of 2025, we partnered with TiCSA to support South Australian tourism businesses, local governments, and regional tourism organisations to enhance their skills, knowledge, and confidence in communicating their ‘Tourism for good’ stories.
These stories help drive demand for their experiences and regions. Additionally, the workshop support the promise of South Australia’s new state brand and the refreshed South Australian Visitor Economy Strategy 2030, which has goals to champion "Tourism as a Force for Good."
The workshop focuses on showing Tourism Businesses why sharing their “For Good” stories is essential for business resilience and profitability and how they can authentically and practically communicate their “For Good” actions and stories to engage visitors across their brand marketing and visitor engagement touchpoints.
A wide range of tourism businesses and organisations from across the state joined us in workshops in Adelaide, Murray Bridge, Streaky Bay, Barossa, and Mount Gambier.

Inspiring Stories
An important part of the workshop was to build connections and learning between participants, and to learn about what other businesses were doing in their local places. A few of the incredible "For Good" stories we heard from tourism businesses at the workshops included:
- Flinders Island Eco Escape - Incredible biosecurity work being done by Flinders Island Eco Retreat (pest control), huge amounts of advocacy for regenerative outcomes for the Island and region by this team too.
- Coorong Wildside Tours & Coorong Wild Seafood - have many sustainability practices, including their search for food uses for the feral European Carp, as featured in ABC's Australia's "Eat the Invaders" TV show.
- Stonewell Cottages Barossa - Wildlife for Wine initiatives, supporting wildlife and revegetation of the Barossa region.
- Barns of Freeling - donating all funds from their Sunflower crop from visitor visitors to local charities through their Sunflow Charity.
Check out each of their websites and be inspired by each of their multifaceted approaches to "Tourism for Good" in their businesses.
Results
Over 100 people from tourism businesses and organisations across the South Australia attended the live workshops as of mid 2025.
At the start and end of the live workshop, we asked participant,s “How confident do you feel in your ability to share "For Good” stories in your business
Across 4 of the workshops we've run in 2025, we saw the following results:
At start of the workshop survey:
- Murray Bridge & Mt Gamber - 68% completely or fairly confident
- Barossa - 53% completely or fairly confident
- Streaky Bay - 57% completely or fairly confident
By the end of the workshop, we asked the same question:
- Murray Bridge & Mt Gamber - 93% completely or fairly confident
- Barossa - 90% completely or fairly confident
- Streaky Bay - 83% completely or fairly confident
This outcome demonstrated that the content in the live workshops delivered specific and practical skills that enabled confidence within the learning cohort to implement their learnings into their businesses. This was further reflected in the short and long-term goals participants noted on the ‘For Good" Storytelling’ activity sheets provided.
