local government
strategy & Capability
Working in partnership with Local Government organisations to create agile strategic tourism frameworks and build internal capability to bolster tourism leadership and shape sustainable destinations.
Shaping strong, Local Government tourism leaders
Establishing a long-term vision for tourism in local communities can sometimes be a challenge, especially working around four-year election cycles and ever-changing community priorities.
We work with LGAs to build the internal capability of staff and elected members to embed an organisational understanding about the full value of tourism (outside of yield and volume), with the intention of strengthening the priority of tourism as an enabler for sustainable community development, environmental conservation, and improved livability.
Through in-person education workshops, we offer global, national and local perspectives, research and data insights, along with best practice activations to demonstrate the full value of tourism, and ensure staff and elected members are informed and empowered to make smart investment decisions for their community.
The Tourism Collective is a safe pair of hands, because of their professionalism and experience across a range of visitor destinations.
Paige, Rebecca and Jaclyn were integral to the development of T2030, the ACT Tourism Strategy, entrusted with managing consultations with the tourism industry and critical stakeholders, including Ministers. They also facilitated a successful visioning workshop with 60+ industry representatives. Aside from the consultations and workshop, we engaged in very productive and thought-provoking discussions with the team, which helped clarify our thinking and shaped the direction of our strategy.
Local Government tourism
frameworks
We work collaboratively with Local Government organisations to develop regional Destination Management Plans, Visitor Servicing Strategies and tourism planning frameworks that sit side by side, or directly within their Council's Economic Development Plans.
As key stakeholders for tourism, a destination's constituent Councils must be engaged deeply in regional destination planning, given that many of the tourism opportunities are activated within the Council's remit.
We involve LGAs in the whole process, and in some cases, develop Local Area Action Plans for constituent councils to ensure alignment between the regional vision and opportunities and those outlined in existing Council plans and frameworks.
This process is effective in building collaboration between councils in the wider tourism destination, helping to agree upon a united purpose and vision for tourism, ensuring they are aligned with the overarching community vision and aspirations.

I cannot recommend Tourism E-School highly enough! I am proud of the work that we have done together and confident in it’s application to grow Riverland Tourism over the next decade.
Destination Riverland commissioned Tourism eSchool (now TTC) in 2019 following an exhaustive tender process to develop the Riverland Tourism Plan 2030 (RTP2030). In early 2020, they started an extensive program of consultation in community and on line began in earnest only to be disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the whole process Rebecca and Paige were wonderfully adaptive, clear and timely in their communication and the final plan produced, despite the interruption of COVID, was outstanding.
